San Diego Travel & Adventure Show. Next Stop: Chicago

This past weekend I attended and took the stage at my first Travel & Adventure Show. The consumer shows, targeted at those of us looking for inspiration or with an insatiable passion and curiosity for travel, new destinations, and connecting with fellow travelers and explorers, have been running in many cities across the United States for some 13 years, including Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles and many others.

The 3rd Annual San Diego Travel Show was vibrant and full of energy and offered something for most every type of traveler. Travel celebrities such as Samantha Brown, host of many Travel Channel shows including the currently running 50/50 with co-host Chris Grundy, Patricia Schultz, best-selling author of “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”, and CBS travel expert Peter Goldberg.

The shows an excellent mix of solid and incredibly helpful travel information, global food, entertainment including world music and dance, and a plethora of exhibitors offering deep-pocket discounts, reliable first-person information and plenty of free stuff, to boot.

The show is will laid out with several stages or theaters where speakers provide tips, slide shows and even cooking demonstration, on the Taste of Travel stage, which is where at most shows I will share the story, background and importance of food and travel while I prepare a key recipe from my book “FORKS: A Quest for Culture, Cuisine, and Connection.” The celebrity speakers share their stories and tips in the usually standing-room only “Travel Theatre,” where other speakers share tips on the “Savvy Traveler” or location-specific information in the “Destination Theater”, and on the “Global Beats” stage attendees can experience culture-rich music, dance and other unique entertainment.

In San Diego I also gave a brief presentation in the “Destination Theater,” where I shared stories stemming from the challenges and rewards of traveling solo. Of course, in each case, I take questions and am happy to chat informally with attendees as well as autograph copies of my book.

For those of you who are Periscope fans or viewers, tune in to my Periscope Channel as I will be streaming live from each of the Travel & Adventure Shows this winter. My presentation from the “Taste of Travel” stage, broadcast Sunday morning quickly captured a decent following. So check it out and say hi!

So if you live anywhere near the cities that I and the Travel & Adventure Show are headed, I hope you’ll make the time to check out the show, say hi and get a good dose of inspiration that just might find you exploring new and unknown territories soon. The remaining shows are in Chicago, Dallas, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Philadelphia. See the chart below for dates. Stay tuned here, too. I will be podcasting and blogging from the road and the shows!
